Choose Well

From visiting our breath-taking clifftop theatre and famous biomes to enjoying our beautiful beaches, summer in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has something for everyone, and we want to make sure that everyone who might need our NHS gets the right care at the right time.

Our new film, featuring some of the Duchy’s iconic landmarks and beauty spots, is designed to help people choose the best service for their needs. The message from clinicians and patients is simple: Choose Well this summer!

NHS Summer Choose Well Film

Ollie, GP: It’s great to be here in Cornwall, whether you live here or you’re visiting but when the weather’s nice it’s easy to get sunburn, insect bites and stings.

Rosie, Pharmacist: They’re all things that pharmacists can help you with, as well as cuts, sprains and if you run out of medication.

Janine, GP: If you are visiting NHS 111 or your own GP back home can give you advice on prescriptions or anything else that’s not urgent.

Catherine, Support Services Manager: If you are worried about your own or somebody else’s mental health, call our 24/7 telephone line. For other urgent healthcare you can get help via NHS111 either online or on the phone.

Jamie: If you visit a minor injury unit check the opening hours and wait times online first.

Paddy: Because your nearest might not be the quickest.

Mark, ED consultant: Please don’t just turn up at an emergency department unless you’ve been told to or your condition is life threatening. So we can focus our care on those who need it most.

Amy: And remember, in Cornwall, always put your cream on top!”

Whether it be self-care for sunburn, a friendly local pharmacist for allergy advice, your own GP for ongoing symptoms or one of our hospitals for something more serious, please share our video to #HelpUsHelpYou and make sure we can prioritise urgent care for those who need it most. If you think you need medical help, please ‘Choose Well’.
