New Board member joins NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly ICB

NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board welcomes the new Chair of Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust David Allen OBE to the ICB Board.

David Allen took up office as Chair of the Trust on 7 January 2025 for a period of 3 years. He is a former Vice-Chair and non-executive director of Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust.

Dr Mairi McLean stood down from her role as Chairwoman this month, having served the maximum term allowed of non-executive board members.

Chair of NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board, John Govett said:

“I want to personally thank Dr Mairi McLean for her contribution to the Integrated Care Board and the NHS here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It also brings me great pleasure to welcome David Allen OBE to our Board in his role as Chair of Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. His wide experience of both the NHS and education sector will be of huge value to our health and care system.”

Chair of Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust David Allen OBE said:

“I am delighted to be joining the ICB Board and look forward to working with my integrated care system partners to help shape services, ensuring patients are at the heart of everything we do.”

David has previously worked as Registrar and Deputy Chief Executive of the University of Exeter and held similar appointments with the universities of Nottingham and Birmingham. He also worked at the universities of Southampton, Wales and the University of Wales College of Medicine. Throughout his career David has worked closely with the NHS and medical, dental, nursing and midwifery education and research. In 2012 David was awarded the OBE for services to higher education.
